Setting up your tutor account

By · Updated June 21, 2026

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A government-issued ID (for the Stripe Connect onboarding step)

  • A bank account in the country you'll be paid out in

  • At least one teaching qualification or three years of demonstrable experience

  • A short bio and a portrait photo

If you have all four to hand, the rest takes around 25 minutes.

Step 1 — Create your account

Go to kotobaseed.net/register and choose I'm a tutor. We'll send a verification email; click the link inside before continuing.

> Verification emails sometimes land in spam. If you don't see one after two minutes, check the junk folder before trying again.

Step 2 — Stripe Connect onboarding

Kotobaseed uses Stripe Connect Express for payouts. From your dashboard, click Get paid → Start onboarding. Stripe will ask for:

1. Personal details (name, address, date of birth)

2. ID verification (passport, driver's license, or national ID)

3. Bank account details

4. Tax information (we collect a W-8 or your local equivalent)

Most tutors finish this step in 10 minutes. Stripe verifies within an hour.

Step 3 — Build your profile

Three things matter most: your bio, your portrait, and your trial-lesson copy.

Bio

Two paragraphs. The first answers who you teach and what they achieve with you. The second answers why you teach the way you do. Avoid lists of qualifications — those go in the credentials block.

Portrait

A clear, warm headshot. Look at the camera. Decent natural light. JPEG or PNG up to 5 MB.

Trial-lesson copy

A 200-word description of what your trial lesson covers. Be specific: "a 30-minute conversation in your target language plus a learning-plan sketch" is much stronger than "a chance to meet me".

Step 4 — Set your rates

You set both the headline rate and the trial-lesson price. Recommendations:

  • First three months: price your trial at 50% of your hourly rate to lower the barrier for new bookings.

  • Hourly: pick the midpoint of comparable tutors in your language pair, then adjust based on student feedback after the first ten lessons.

  • Package discounts: most tutors find a 10–15% bulk discount on 10-lesson packs converts well without eroding margins.

Step 5 — Calendar + availability

Set your weekly availability under Calendar → Schedule. You can also flag trial windows — slots specifically reserved for trial lessons — without giving up paid bookings during peak hours.

Step 6 — Publish

When you're ready, click Profile → Publish. Your page goes live at yourname.kotobaseed.net (or your custom domain, if you've added one).
